6 Common Mistakes That Bosses Make With Their Employees

Business

August 2, 2017

Employees often complain about their bosses, but the vice versa also happens. Sometimes, even the best possible workers are targeted by their bosses for no obvious reasons whatsoever. Next thing in the circle is that often, good employees leave their jobs to look for a better place to work at.

All the problems mentioned can easily be avoided, though. Not all of us think the right way, and if only we could look the situation from that angle, we would easily understand what is right and what is not. After changing our perspective, problems look different both to our bosses and managers and to us. Therefore, they become easier to crack.

Here are six of the biggest mistakes that bosses make with their employees (and that actually make us leave our jobs).

 They overload their employees

This is a bad way to treat your employees, and it happens often. A desire to accomplish your goals is understandable, but if you force someone too much, it will surely be counterproductive. Some countries that decreased the working time from 8 to 6 hours actually improved people’s productivity and strength. Research from Stanford shows that productivity decreases significantly when there are more than 50 working hours a week, and it drops even more if they exceed 55 hours. If you do have a lot of work to be done, try improving employees’ status with their working hours. For example, give them raises,

Research from Stanford shows that productivity decreases significantly when there are more than 50 working hours a week, and it drops even more if they exceed 55 hours. If you have a lot of work to be done, try improving employees’ status with their working hours. For example, give them raises, title changes or promotions—these will motivate them additionally and help in hard times. If you just increase hours because of your needs or people’s lack of talent, they will end up finding a better job, that’s for sure!

 They don’t give rewards

Sometimes, it is all about motivation and how to find it. When someone finishes a good work, it is a motivating experience itself, and a good boss would surely know the way to encourage you even more. When you help and encourage employees with raises or similar benefits, they will feel that their work is noticed and try even harder. On the other hand, if you disregard their effort, they will feel less appreciated and most certainly will stop trying so much.

 They don’t care

Most of the people who leave their jobs actually do it because of their bosses. Huge companies’ bosses deeply care about their employees, so they try to understand their needs and wishes. This kind of bosses empathizes with people who are having hard times and help them through a crisis. They further encourage their employees to handle their troubles and help them beat the challenges they are facing. It is really impossible to work with someone for eight or more hours and not care about their problems. Furthermore, every boss should listen and help their employees.

 They don’t keep promises

Many bosses make promises to their employees from the moment they enter the company, but still, not many of them are ready to uphold their commitment and thus grow in the eyes of the employees.

On the other hand, when someone disregards his commitment, he falls in their eyes, and they won’t believe him any longer. In the end, every boss should know that he is a role model for the employees, so he should take care of what he is saying and support his words with his deeds!

 They promote the wrong people

This can also be quite a demotivation for everyone who works in the company. First, the boss hires incompetent people and then he promotes them afterward?! Wait a minute! How should other, qualified employees feel then? It is an awful feeling to know that you deserve something, and you don’t get it. It is a huge insult to see that people who don’t deserve promotion are in the highest positions, and this can have a huge impact on an employee’s behavior. That person can decide to even leave the company immediately because of this humiliating situation.

They do not encourage their employees

Every good employee has a goal in front of him, so every boss should provide opportunities for them to follow, in order to improve their productivity and satisfaction. Still, not every boss does this. They usually don’t allow people to chase dreams and force them to focus only on daily tasks. Remember that every employee has a dream, and that dream is making him more and more productive. Encouraging people to chase their dreams will provide you with the best of them, and thus increase the motivation in the company.
