Der Schauspieler, Regisseur und Produzent verbuchte seine ersten Erfolge im Film mit „Manta, Manta“ 1991 und „Der bewegte Mann“ 1994. Er ist in zahlreichen deutschen Filmen aufgetreten und spielt sogar die Hauptrolle im deutschen Erfolgsformat „Tatort. Zu Filmen welche er selbst produzierte gehören „Keinohrhasen“ 2007, und „Kokowääh“ 2011. Schweiger ist Vater von vier Kindern. Nesthäkchen Emma (17) hatte als fünfjährige ihren ersten Auftritt auf der Kinoleinwand in der von Schweiger produzierten Komödie „Keinohrhasen“.
Tochter Emma wird bald 18 und sucht derzeit öffentlich nach männlichem Heiratsmaterial auf Instagram. Sie veröffentlichte dort ein Video, in welchen sie potenzielle Kandidaten zur Bewerbung einlädt.
