Serena faced yet another blow when the French Tennis Federation announced the ban on Nike full-suit garments. Serena had worn the black Wakanda-inspired catsuit for most of 2018 for medical reasons, to prevent suffering from blood clots as she had after childbirth. Serena said she felt like the suit represented all women whose bodies had gone through a lot both mentally and physically.

Nike posted a photo of Williams wearing the suit captioning that you can’t take a superhero’s powers just by getting them out of their costume. Serena took it in great stride and also responded to the ban saying that with fashion, it was best not to become a repeat offender.
