Nonostante i 13 anni di differenza e la diagnosi di cancro di Buckley nel 1989, la loro relazione è diventata una delle più solide nel mondo della moda e del jet-set internazionale.
Dopo 27 anni di fidanzamento, si sono sposati nel 2014 e hanno avuto un figlio, Alexander John “Jack” Buckley Ford, nato nel 2012 tramite maternità surrogata. La loro storia si è conclusa nel 2021 con la scomparsa di Buckley, lasciando Ford vedovo dopo un amore che ha superato malattia, pregiudizi e il tempo.
