Phoebe Cates è apparsa in numerosi film famosi degli anni ’80, ma è probabilmente meglio conosciuta per i suoi ruoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High del 1982 e Gremlins del 1984. Nel 2005, Cates ha aperto un negozio in Madison Avenue, New York, non lontano dalla casa della sua famiglia. Aveva infatti deciso di apparire solo saltuariamente sul grande schermo se avesse trovato ruoli che la ispirassero.
