HELEN SHAPIRO – 75
Born in London, Helen Shapiro is an actress and jazz singer, known for films such as Legends, Seven Psychopaths and Ring-A-Ding Rhythm! She is also popular for her two UK chartbusters, You Don’t Know and Walkin’ Back to Happiness. Before she was 16, she had been voted Britain’s Top Female Singer and played the first engagement of her British nationwide tour in 1963. The Beatles were second-billed to her act.
Her autobiography, published in 1993, is titled Walking Back to Happiness. Shapiro appeared as a guest on BBC Radio 4’s The Reunion and was also featured on BBC Radio 3’s Good Morning Sunday. In her later years, she became a Messianic Jew.
