En 2007, Ricki Lake a décidé de prendre soin de sa santé et de perdre du poids. L’actrice avait longtemps souffert de la dépression à cause de son surpoids. Pour affiner sa taille, la star a pris soin de réguler son apport en calorie et de manger sainement. Elle a aussi commencé à faire du sport. Bien que les résultats ont été satisfaisants, l’actrice n’a pas pu garder son poids et reprit vite quelques kilos. Déterminée à affiner sa silhouette, elle a par la suite décidé en 2011 de participer à l’émission Dancing with the Stars. Même si elle n’a décroché que la troisième place, la compétition lui a tout de même permis de perdre 20 kilos.
