That afternoon, Deaks showed up unannounced with the old trail camera. “We ran the footage through some enhancement software,” he said, visibly pale. “You might want to see it.” The new version revealed more than blurred movement. In one frame, the crouching figure turned its head. Human eyes. A necklace of woven reeds.
What’s strange is that it blinked once, then disappeared from the frame without walking out. Just gone. Tom paused the video, asking if they thought it was real. Deaks shook his head. “Doesn’t matter what I think. Whatever it was, your girl knew it was there before the lens did.” Clara didn’t argue with that.
