She placed Elsie in her crib and sat on the floor beside her. Then she picked up the satellite phone and dialed a number from memory.
Miriam Wilcox had studied behavioral anomalies in predator species. When Clara described what she’d seen, Miriam said only this: “Sometimes they gather, but it’s never random. Something organized them.” Clara asked what that meant. Miriam replied that she should just stay with Elsie because it’s probably not over yet.
