Eyes Beneath the Stone
A sharp and raw scream erupted from the darkness. The sound clawed its way up the shaft, twisting her chest. Then, a light flickered below. Steve’s flashlight swept across the stone floor, exposing a truth worse than silence. Dozens of faint eyes glowed back, fixed unblinking on him.
They didn’t move. They only stared, gleaming like embers caught in the beam. The air above turned colder as she gripped the rope again, knuckles white. His voice carried up, trembling despite the effort to steady it. “You need to see this.” The beam shifted, catching more eyes, dozens becoming many. He wasn’t alone down there. Something had been waiting.
