The line clicked alive, and a voice asked her to describe everything. Hana spilled details in a rush: size, movement, the dull heaviness in the animal’s eyes. When she stopped, silence flooded again. Her throat closed.
Finally, the voice returned, softer now. He admitted he couldn’t name what it was, but certainty carried in his words. Without help, she was sure the creature would not make it. Not for long. Her eyes dropped to the trembling body at her feet. Fear didn’t paralyze anymore; it sharpened. They had little time. Whatever this was, it demanded everything she had left to give.
