Bekannt ist Sepp Maier als Deutschlands Torwart des Jahrhunderts. Er wurde mit dem Bundesverdienstkreuz ausgezeichnet und trägt die Titel Weltmeister, Europameister, Vizeeuropameister. Die knielangen Hosen waren damals sein Markenzeichen. Er trug eine sehr lange Zeit Schnupftabak bei sich. Aber seit 2018 nicht mehr. “Ich habs endlich geschafft aufzuhören”, sagt Sepp Maier. Selbst in der Sendung von Markus Lanz hatte er seinen Tabak ausgepackt und ihn sich in die Nase gezogen. Dass da alle Kameras auf ihn gerichtet waren und Millionen Mensch zusahen, hatte ihn nicht gestört. Maier heiratete im Jahr 2008 seine langjährige Freundin Monika Roth.
