Er nannte sich selbst den “König des Popschlagers“ und Michael Wendler lebte zeitweise tatsächlich wie ein Star. Nach erfolgreichen Jahren im Musikgeschäft folgte der finanzielle Absturz, doch mit seiner jungen Frau Laura startete er noch einmal durch. Gemeinsam zog das Paar nach Florida und kaufte sich in Cape Coral ein Haus für rund 500.000 Euro.
Der Plan war, alles nach eigenem Geschmack zu renovieren und den amerikanischen Traum zu leben. Doch dann kam die Pandemie und Sponsoren sprangen ab, TV-Sender distanzierten sich vom Wendler. Trotz Karriereknick bleibt das Haus in Florida aber ihr Rückzugsort. Zwischen Palmen, Pool und Sonnenschein versucht das Paar, sich dort ein neues Leben aufzubauen.
