Elton John hat sich im Jahr 1976 als bisexuell geoutet und heiratete 1984 die deutsche Renate Blauel. Nach der Schedung der beiden, outete er sich als schwul. Elton und John ließen 2005 ihre Partnerschaft im britischen Standesamt eintragen und heirateten dann im Jahr 2014. 2010 und 2013 wurden die beiden auch Väter von zwei Söhnen mithilfe einer Leihmutter. Die Patentante dieser Kinder ist Lady Gaga.
