Tijdens zijn periode in Lyon kreeg Memphis Depay te maken met een aantal schokkende inbraken, waardoor zijn gevoel van veiligheid ernstig werd aangetast. Om rust en privacy terug te vinden, nam hij een drastisch besluit: hij verruilde zijn woning in Lyon voor een suite in Parijs. Niet zomaar een verblijf, maar het prestigieuze vijfsterrenhotel Prince de Galles, een van de meest exclusieve adressen van de lichtstad.
Depay’s suite bevond zich op de bovenste verdieping, voorzien van een riant terras met panoramisch uitzicht over de stad. De standaardkamers van het hotel starten al bij € 685 per nacht, wat illustreert hoeveel financiële ruimte een topvoetballer als Memphis heeft. Zijn keuze voor een tijdelijk onderkomen in een luxehotel toont aan dat comfort en veiligheid soms belangrijker zijn dan een vaste woonplek.
