Paul de Leeuw toonde al vroeg zijn vooruitziende blik als investeerder. Ruim vijfentwintig jaar geleden kocht hij een appartement in Rotterdam voor de bescheiden prijs van €111.000. Het diende als praktisch toevluchtsoord na zijn avondoptredens, zodat hij niet telkens laat naar huis hoefde te reizen. Het appartement bevond zich op de zevende verdieping en bood een prachtig uitzicht over de stad. Met twee slaapkamers en een moderne badkamer was het bovendien zeer comfortabel ingericht.
Toen hij later besloot het pand te verkopen, was er geen hypotheek meer openstaand. Dat leverde hem een aanzienlijke winst op, een bewijs dat zijn gevoel voor timing en zakelijk inzicht zich niet alleen op het podium manifesteert, maar ook op de vastgoedmarkt.
