Voormalig topvoetballer Marco van Basten heeft zijn imposante woning in Amsterdam, pal naast het iconische Vondelpark, in de verkoop gezet. Wat op het eerste gezicht lijkt op een gouden deal, is toch complexer dan men zou denken. Hij kocht het pand destijds voor € 6,8 miljoen en bij de huidige vraagprijs lijkt hij ruim zeven miljoen winst te realiseren. Toch is dit bedrag minder eenvoudig te verklaren, omdat Van Basten na de aankoop een hypotheek van ruim € 6 miljoen afsloot. Daarmee liet hij het huis, gebouwd in 1925, ingrijpend renoveren en voorzien van alle moderne gemakken die passen bij hedendaagse luxe.
De locatie is zonder twijfel een van de grootste troeven van de woning. Gelegen midden in de levendige hoofdstad, maar tegelijk grenzend aan de rust en natuurpracht van het Vondelpark, combineert dit huis het beste van twee werelden. De klassieke grandeur van de jaren twintig gaat hier hand in hand met de stijl en verfijning van een luxe stadsresidentie anno nu.
