Tim McGraw, who was born with the last name Smith, grew up believing that his stepfather was his biological father. He didn’t learn that his real father was MLB pitcher Tug McGraw until he happened to find his birth certificate at age 11. Tim and his estranged father met for the first time when Tim was 18.
