Shadows Standing Still
Since that night, Harper has noticed something strange in photos. Trees would always come out blurred, but there was always something in the frame that stayed crystal clear: a figure near the trees, a shadow at the edge of the road, something that shouldn’t have held still. She deleted the photos, but they reappeared in her cloud, in her backups, and on her TV.
It was always the same shape, always facing her. One day, she turned on her phone, and the home screen had changed. It was a picture she didn’t take of her car near the woods. And in the reflection of the rearview mirror, two yellow eyes.
