Most people go to the beach expecting gentle waves and a warm breeze. At Maho Beach in St. Maarten, you also get a jetliner roaring past just a few feet overhead. These beachgoers were probably just enjoying a casual day in the sun when, suddenly, a massive aircraft decided to make its grand entrance.
One kid is mid-scream, a woman is bracing for impact, and another looks like she’s questioning all her life choices. What makes it even wilder is that Princess Juliana International Airport has one of the shortest runways for a major airport, meaning pilots have to approach at a ridiculously low altitude.
