André Rieu, wereldwijd bekend als de man die klassieke muziek toegankelijk maakt voor een breed publiek, is ook in vastgoedkringen geen onbekende naam. Zijn sprookjesachtige kasteel, liefkozend ‘De Torentjes’ genoemd, ligt aan de rand van Maastricht en grenst aan de schilderachtige Sint-Pietersberg. Het bouwwerk straalt historie uit: bepaalde delen dateren zelfs uit de 16e eeuw en zijn opmerkelijk goed bewaard gebleven.
Toen Rieu het kasteel aankocht voor € 4,3 miljoen, leek dit een forse investering. Maar wie dacht dat dit de eindstreep was, vergiste zich. Door talloze verbouwingen en moderne aanpassingen heeft hij het pand volledig aangepast aan de eisen van deze tijd, zonder dat het historische karakter verloren ging. Daarmee combineert zijn woonhuis de grandeur van een eeuwenoud monument met de luxe van een moderne residentie.
